Hospital Art Tech Care It is an integrated ecosystem in which Silvio Irilli’s physical artwork, applied directly to the walls of the ward, serves as an “anchor” for immersive digital extensions in augmented reality and virtual reality.
The patient looks at the mural. They point a tablet or smartphone at it, and the artwork comes to life through augmented reality: characters come to life, worlds open up, and stories transport them to other places. With a VR headset, the patient physically enters the painted world, interacting with the characters in an immersive environment designed for therapeutic distraction.
Ospedali Dipinti It is a Benefit Corporation founded in 2012 based on an idea by artist Silvio Irilli, and it is a major Italian initiative aimed at humanizing hospitals. Through art, we transform hospital wards into spaces filled with hope and emotion, allowing young patients and adults alike to let their imaginations run wild, making treatments easier to bear and offering support to families, doctors, and nurses. Over the past 14 years, more than 70 wards in over 40 hospitals have been decorated, and in 2025, the “Ospedali Dipinti” project was presented by artist Silvio Irilli at the UN in New York before representatives from 17 countries. It was a moment of great pride and responsibility. The initiative garnered significant international interest and acclaim, confirming that a project born from the desire to help children and families can have a global impact, transforming spaces and lives through the power of art.
