You Are Matilde is a historical and cultural journey that uses Virtual Reality (VR) to tell the life and legacy of Matilde of Canossa through immersive stages of great documentary rigour. The project offers an overarching vision linking the events of the European Middle Ages to one of the most influential women in history, weaving together castles, battles and diplomacy into a single narrative. The story moves through the key moments of Canossa power: from the fortifications of the Apennines to the palace halls where the fate of the Papacy and the Empire was decided, right up to the famous episode of the “pardon” of Canossa.
To convey the political and dynastic complexities of the Middle Ages, going beyond the limits of traditional visits. The project aims to restore memory and visibility to fortresses and manor houses now in ruins or transformed by time, bringing to life the everyday reality and strategic importance of the period.
A cultural route across the territory, punctuated by immersive Virtual Reality stations. The use of technology turns the classic visit into a dynamic educational tool, blending authored storytelling with three-dimensional reconstructions of the historic sites.
Heritage reconstruction: The integration of Virtual Reality provides visual access to medieval architectural structures that are no longer intact, placing users directly inside the ancient fortifications.
Celebrating local identity: The combination of documentary rigour and multimedia storytelling offers deep insight into the social and political development of the Canossa lands.
