Moby Dick Experience

Moby Dick Experience is a literary and sensory journey that uses Virtual Reality (VR) to transform Herman Melville’s masterpiece into an immersive cinematic adventure. The project bridges the novel’s epic narrative with the visual power of the ocean, offering a single, unified story that blends literature and technology. The experience lets visitors climb aboard the Pequod and sail in search of the legendary White Whale, immersed in an ambisonic sound design of extraordinary intensity.

The challenge

Translating the power of the written page into a three-dimensional space, going beyond the limits of classic literary fruition. The project aims to make the magnetic allure of Melville’s settings tangible, exploring the strength of the myth and the conflict between man and the infinite through total multisensory engagement.

The format

A multimedia experience in Location-Based Experience (LBE) format, made up of a single continuous 14-minute Virtual Reality (VR 3DoF) piece. The use of headsets and an advanced audio setup turns literary storytelling into a dynamic tool, capable of placing the audience right at the centre of the action.

The impact

Immersive cinematography: VR technology elevates the literary adaptation to a new visual level, heightening the emotional impact and understanding of the epic narrative.
Bringing the great classics to a wider audience: The combination of narrative rigour and digital fruition gives enthusiasts, schools and the general public the ideal tools to approach the masterpieces of world literature in a contemporary way.
Flexibility and exhibition prestige: An agile, highly engaging installation format, specifically designed to fit within exhibitions, festivals and events in prestigious cultural settings.
