THE SCENES

ACT 1

It's the evening of the premiere of Nabucco, 9 March 1842. It's snowing. Let yourself be carried into an alleyway, where, all around you, the life of Milan of that era is stirring. Watch the Teatro alla Scala. The lights come on: it's the start of the opera that will make the young Verdi famous.

ACT 2

The popular uprisings of Milan in 1848 sweep through the city. Let yourself be surrounded by the many flames coming from the nearby buildings. After the last attack, the smoke and dust clear. The tricolour flags are waving: Milan has won. Verdi tells you about the Five Days, of wanting an Italy “free, united and republican” and that with his art he can support the revolution under way.

ACT 3

In front of you, the writing desk placed at the centre of the room: Verdi composed at his desk, in front of the score, at night. In this scene, the story of the Maestro's inspiration as he composed, his creative act. Let yourself be surrounded by the musical notes floating around you that come together to form a melody.

ACT 4

Watch, from behind the scenes, a complex yet flawless machine, made up of master craftsmen who build, with unmatched skill and passion, the success of the operas. ACT 5

Experience the final farewell to Giuseppe Verdi, marked by the most impressive public gathering in the history of Milan and perhaps of Italy. Watch from a balcony in the heart of Milan as a crowd of 300,000 people joined the procession, led by a choir of 820 voices conducted by Maestro Arturo Toscanini, singing “Va, pensiero”.
